One dot of colour per room
Every room is a specimen
Before a wall is painted, we draw the room as a sheet of glyphs: an arch, a ring, a quarter circle, a plus. Each shape gets a colour and a job. Repeat them with care and a flat becomes a family.
Book a colour walkA room alphabet
Twenty-six letters on the studio wall. Ten of them come up in almost every commission; ask us about any of them on a colour walk.
- Arch
- We round one doorway or niche in every home. It is where the eye rests.
- Bouclé
- A knotted, chalky fabric for the one chair nobody wants to leave.
- Colour drench
- Walls, skirting and ceiling in one shade, so the room reads as a single block.
- Daylight
- We map the sun across each room at two hours of the day before choosing a paint.
- Gloss ceiling
- A lacquered ceiling doubles the light of a low room and makes it taller.
- Limewash
- Cloudy, mineral walls that change with the hour and age without peeling.
- Niche
- A recess with its own colour for the one object you love most.
- Pervenche
- Our blue, and our name. Calm in north light, bright and clear under lamps.
- Terrazzo
- A floor flecked with every colour of the scheme, so it ties the rooms together.
- Wainscot
- Panelling to hip height, painted one shade deeper than the wall above it.

Said in our rooms
Clients in their own words
We asked for a calm bedroom and got a blue we now plan our holidays around.
Customers photograph the counter before they order. That never happened in our old shop.
They drew the whole salon on one sheet of paper. Every chair, lamp and tile we own is on it.
Colour first

Six house paints
Mixed in Lyon from three pigments and a great deal of white. Every commission ends with a tin of each shade we used, for the touch-ups.
-
Pervenche
Our blue, cool and clear. For north rooms, hallways and any wall that needs to breathe.
Pairs with Citron
-
Bonbon
A pink with a little grey in it, so it never turns sugary. For bedrooms and salons.
Pairs with Encre
-
Citron
A sharp lime for one door, one shelf or one niche. Use it the way you use salt.
Pairs with Pervenche
-
Lilas
Half Pervenche, half Bonbon: dusk in a tin. Best on all four walls and the ceiling.
Pairs with Craie
-
Craie
Our white, with a drop of blue so it stays fresh at night instead of turning yellow.
Pairs with everything
-
Encre
Deep ink for ceilings, skirting and back doors. It makes the other five glow.
Pairs with Bonbon
We paint for the light you have
A colour is only half paint; the other half is the window. Before we choose anything, we watch your walls at four hours of the day.
- MorningCool and clear. Blues look their bluest.
- NoonFlat and honest. The hour to judge a white.
- EveningLow and warm. Pinks blush and greys turn to sand.
- NightLamps only. Now the ceiling sets the mood.
Four sittings
Every commission takes four meetings, never more. Between them, we draw.
- Sitting 1
Walk
We walk your rooms at two hours of the day with paint cards and a notebook. You talk, we listen.
- Sitting 2
Draw
A specimen sheet: plan, palette, shapes and lamps on one page, with a sample of every finish.
- Sitting 3
Sample
Swatches a metre square on your own walls, seen in the morning and again at night.
- Sitting 4
Paint
We stay with the painters until the last line of tape comes off, then leave a tin of each shade.
Questions people ask
Anything else, ask us on a colour walk or write a note below.
Do you work outside Lyon?
Yes. Colour walks are within two hours of Lyon by train. Drawings and light scores can be made anywhere from your photos, plans and a video call.
Can we keep our furniture?
Almost always. We draw around the pieces you love and tell you honestly which one is fighting the room.
How long does a one-room drawing take?
Three weeks from the first sitting to the specimen sheet, then usually two more until the painters have packed up.
Do you sell the paints?
Only within a commission, mixed to order in Lyon. Each project ends with a tin of every shade we used.
What if we hate the colour?
That is what the third sitting is for. We paint swatches a metre square on your own walls and change them until you stop frowning.
