Light, room by room

Every room asks for something different once the sun is down. Six short briefs from our lighting plans, each with the lamps that answer it.

Six rooms

Kitchen

Work light under the cabinets, one low pendant over the table and a dimmer on both, so dinner never happens in the glare of the worktop.

Kitchen pendants →
A white kitchen with four glass pendants over an island and wooden stools

Bath

A mirror light at face height rather than above it, and something soft and splash-rated for the long bath with the big light off.

Bathroom wall lights →
A white marble basin under a large mirror with a brass frame

Bedroom

Two lights at pillow height that dim right down, and a ceiling light you hardly use. Warm bulbs only, and a switch you can reach from bed.

Bedside lights →
A white bedroom with a black wall lamp above a wooden bedside table

Living

Three pools of light at three heights: a floor lamp by the chair, a table lamp across the room and something low on a shelf.

Floor and table lamps →

Study

One arm lamp you can aim at the page and a softer light behind the screen, so your eyes are not working against the dark.

Desk lamps →

Hall

A welcome at the door: a wall light on a sensor, and a small lamp on the console for the hours when nobody is home.

Your room is not on the list?

A plan before a single hole is drilled

Most rooms are lit by one light in the middle of the ceiling, because nobody planned otherwise. Our planners draw the light first and choose the lamps after.

  1. 1

    Send us the room

A floor plan or a sketch with measurements, two photos, and what you do in the room after dark.

  2. 2

    We draw the light

Within a week you get a drawing marking every lamp, switch and socket, and a list that fits your budget.

  3. 3

    We hang it

Order the list and our electrician fits it in a day, plug-in lamps placed and dimmers set.

Start a plan

Free with orders over £600. Otherwise £90, which comes off the lamps you buy from the plan.

Made by hands, not lines

We buy from workshops small enough to answer the phone. Most make fewer than a hundred lamps a year, and we can tell you whose hands wired yours.

Borrow a lamp for the weekend

A lamp looks different at home, at night, next to your own sofa. So take it home first and decide there.

Borrow a lamp

One lamp at a time per household, Glasgow addresses only.

  1. Friday

Choose any table or floor lamp in the showroom. We pack it and lend you the right bulb.

  2. The weekend

Live with it. Try it by the chair, on the dresser, and after dark, when it matters.

  3. Monday

Bring it back and the £20 deposit comes back too, or keep it and the deposit comes off the price.

Bring us the lamp you cannot throw away

A grandmother's brass reader, a market find, the lamp that came with the flat. We rewire it, replace what is unsafe, keep what is beautiful and test it before it goes home.

Rewiring from £45, back in about ten days

Book a repair
A vintage brass lamp with a pleated shade glowing against a yellow wall
  1. Step 1

    Strip it down

Old flex, perished rubber and the brittle lampholder come out.

  2. Step 2

    Rewire

New cord, earthed wherever the metal needs it, with proper strain relief.

  3. Step 3

    Switch and plug

A new switch where your hand expects it, and a fused plug.

  4. Step 4

    Shade and test

The shade cleaned or remade, then a safety test and a dated label.

Before the lamps arrive

Short answers to what people ask at the counter. Anything else, write to us.

Do you deliver, and how fast?

Across the UK in three to five working days, packed in paper and card. Glasgow orders over £150 come in our own van, often the next day.

Can you fit the lamps as well?

Yes. Our electrician fits pendants and wall lights across Glasgow from £65 a visit. Plug-in lamps need nobody.

What does a lighting plan cost?

Nothing with an order over £600. Otherwise it is £90, and the £90 comes off any lamps you buy from the plan within a year.

Which bulb should I buy?

For living rooms and bedrooms, warm white and dimmable. Bring the old bulb in or send a photo of the fitting, and we will match the base and the light.

Can I return a lamp?

Within thirty days, unused and in its box. Made-to-order shades and repaired lamps cannot come back, and we say so before you pay.

Open till nine on Thursdays

Thursdays 17:00 to 21:00. Tea on the counter and a lighting planner on the floor.

Glass and brass pendant lamps lit in a dark showroom

Every Thursday the showroom stays open into the evening, with the daylight gone and every lamp switched on. It is the honest way to see how a shade throws its light: after dark, the way you will use it.
